If you’re expecting and curious about newborn photos, it’s likely you’re coming across a lot of work that features bold colored swaddles, props, and lots of babies in baskets. I’ll be the first to say, that’s not what you’re going to get when you book me. As a long-time Los Angeles newborn photographer who specializes in natural photography, my approach is a bit different than much of what you’ll see in the newborn category. Rather than filling the frame with props and colors, I use natural, neutral tones and focus on the connection between you and your new baby so that the newborn photos you come away with stand the test of time.
Your newborn is perfect exactly as they are: and that’s how I will capture them. To help you imagine what your Los Angeles newborn session with me might feel like, let’s play a game of This or That.
Timeless, Neutral Tones vs. Bold, Trendy Colors

This: Timeless, neutral shades for baby’s knits and swaddles as well as parent and sibling wardrobe.
Not That: Bright, bold blankets and wraps that could be out of favor by the new year.
Timeless, Baby-Led Posing vs. Unnatural Posing and Props

This: natural, baby-led posing that mimics an infant’s natural movements for timeless shots of your newborn.
Not That: contortionist poses in which babies cannot be naturally supported or are completely immobilized.
Full Styling Service vs. DIY Wardrobe Stress

This: With me, you have full access to my client wardrobe, stocked with flattering, comfortable dresses that photograph beautifully—perfect for the postpartum body. You’ll find brands like Free People, Anthropologie, Dôen, and Rachel Pally. I’ve got your newborn covered with wraps, swaddles and delicate knits in soothing, neutral shades. And for the rest of your family? I’ll personally help you style them for a cohesive look.
Not That: Going on a wild goose chase to find clothes that fit two weeks after giving birth, not to mention trying to coordinate a look for your family on three hours’ sleep.
Flexible Timing Vs. Strict, Two-Week Window

This: Ideally, we’ll photograph your newborn between one and two weeks old, when they are sleeping deeply and still love to be curled up like they were in the womb. However, I’m not one of those photographers who will only do a newborn session in the first two weeks. Sometimes parents don’t realize they want newborn photographs until they see how quickly their baby grows. In other cases, a newborn may need to stay in the hospital for a few weeks. My natural posing approach means that we can get the kinds of photos you see on my website and social media well after the two week mark.
Not that: Hearing from a photographer that your baby has “missed the window” or is “too old” for newborn photos.
Quality, Done-for-You Wall Art and Albums vs. Files That Live Forever on a Hard Drive

This: Done-for-you fine-art prints of your newborn photos. I’ve spent years testing professional photo labs to ensure that what I offer to my clients is best in class, and that your printed photos will stand the test of time.
Not That: Leaving you to your own devices to create photo art and prints from a less-than-stellar public photo service, all while managing a newborn – or worse, leaving the images to live forever on your computer’s hard drive.
