Documenting Baby’s First Year: Rachel’s Maternity, Newborn, and Milestone Sessions in LA
When Rachel first started searching for a photographer, she wasn’t even sure she wanted maternity photos. “It was a little overwhelming to think about what I would even want if I wanted to do a maternity session. But I knew I would regret not doing it,” she shared.
She wanted images that felt natural — no ballgowns or heavy staging, just something “clean and simple, light and airy… very much me.”
Finding the Right Fit
Rachel discovered me on Yelp while looking for maternity photographers. She reached out to a few people, but one detail made a difference for her:
“Ariel sent a video describing what she does… that was such a nice personal touch. Of course, the package was very appealing too — to be able to just do it all at once with one person.”

The Experience
From the very beginning, I made sure Rachel felt at ease. My North LA studio is designed for new families, with a private space for feeding or getting ready, snacks and water on hand, and no sense of being rushed.
Rachel said afterwards: “She blocks out a ton of time so you never feel rushed. You can feed your newborn, take breaks… those little things go a long way to make you feel valued.”
Styling was another big relief for her: “I didn’t have a ton of cute maternity things. Postpartum too… who knows what’s going to fit? The wardrobe is great.”
And as for the session itself? “I don’t love being in front of the camera, and my husband really doesn’t. But Ariel knew the right cues and directions. She even made him comfortable. She’s a baby whisperer… but also a parent whisperer!”
The Photos
When Rachel saw her galleries, she was floored: “All of them were so good. I just love looking at them. The newborn shoot — I was in sleep deprivation. I wouldn’t remember how little and cute she was if I didn’t have those photos.”
One of the things she appreciated most was the flexibility of the gallery process: “We had 30 photos included and she gave us 60 to choose from. Having that piece of control was nice. You can’t put a price on memories.”

When asked if she’d recommend me, Rachel didn’t hesitate: “Of course. 100%. You literally cannot put a price on having these memories. I would pay more now that I know what I’m getting. The way Ariel captures these moments is something not just any photographer can do.”

What is your style of photography?
My style is natural, timeless, and focused on connection. I’ll gently guide you throughout your session so you never feel awkward or unsure of what to do — but the end result won’t look stiff or overly posed. Instead, your photos will feel like you: relaxed, real, and full of genuine moments. I use simple settings and beautiful light to highlight both individual portraits and the in-between interactions that tell your family’s story.
What types of photography do you offer?
I photograph motherhood and family in all its stages — from maternity and newborn portraits to milestone sessions and yearly family photos. Many of my newborn clients continue working with me as their children grow, which means I get to tell their family’s story year after year. Whether in the studio, your home, or outdoors, my goal is to create photographs that feel natural, timeless, and full of connection.

I’ve been photographing families in Los Angeles for over a decade, specializing in maternity, newborn, and family portraits.
Where do sessions take place?
It depends on the type of session:
Maternity – in the studio, at one of my favorite gardens, or at the beach
Newborn – in the studio or in your home
Baby Milestone – in the studio or at one of my outdoor locations, depending on your baby’s age
Family – in the studio, at one of my favorite gardens, or at the beach
I also offer custom sessions in locations that are meaningful to you. I serve families throughout Los Angeles and the surrounding areas.
Where is your studio located?
My studio is in Northeast Los Angeles (90065). It’s a warm, light-filled space designed with new families in mind — comfortable seating, neutral tones, and a curated wardrobe so you can feel at ease the moment you walk in.
How does booking work?
When you inquire, I’ll send you all the details on session options and pricing, and I’ll be here to answer any questions you have. When you’re ready to book, it’s a simple online process: just complete your contract and pay your deposit, and your date is reserved! For newborn sessions, we’ll pencil in some space on my calendar ahead of time and choose the exact date once your baby arrives.
How far in advance should I book?
The earlier the better! I recommend reaching out as soon as you’re considering a session — ideally in your second trimester for maternity or before your baby arrives for newborn photos. For family sessions, I book up especially quickly in the spring and fall, so it’s best to reach out early if you’d like a spot during peak season.
Will you help me with what to wear?
Yes! I’ll help style your whole family so everyone looks their best. Women, little girls, and babies are welcome to borrow from my curated studio wardrobe. I can also help you pull pieces from your own closet or even guide you through shopping online so everything feels cohesive and comfortable.
What do I receive after my session?
Every image collection includes a selection of fully retouched digital files delivered in a private online gallery — ready to download, share, and back up for your family archive. You’ll also receive a wall art & album credit to use toward heirloom-quality prints.
