First of all—congratulations again on your growing family! If you’ve landed here, you know that you want natural, heartfelt photographs of your newborn and family, but perhaps you aren’t quite sure whether an in-home or studio session is right for you.
As a Los Angeles newborn photographer, I’ve photographed both in-home and studio sessions for years. While I can’t tell you that one session type is hands-down better than the other, I can help you understand the differences so that you can decide what’s best for your family.
Studio vs. In-Home: What to Expect
The Lighting & Overall Look
- Studio: Designed for light and simplicity. My Los Angeles studio features white walls and floors that reflect soft, natural light beautifully—perfect for that bright, airy look many parents love.
- In-Home: Still beautiful, but a bit moodier. Even with portable studio lighting, your home’s layout and decor subtly affect the images. For example, unless your home is filled with white, we’ll often see deeper shadows and a bit more contrast.
I’ve included side-by-side examples below. If you’ve got a keen eye, you’ll see that the in-home images have deeper shadows and the studio images are a bit more light and airy.

Style & Backgrounds
- Studio: Minimal and timeless. The clean setting keeps the focus entirely on your baby and your family’s connection. Neutral tones, no clutter, and a polished, classic style.
- In-Home: Sentimental and real. If you have a blank wall, we can still create that studio-style look. Or, we can lean into lifestyle moments like snuggling on your couch or bed
Why Families Might Choose an In-Home Session
- You’re not ready to leave the house just yet (understandable!).
- An older sibling might feel more comfortable in their own environment or need to check out early for a nap.
- It works better with your schedule or partner’s work-from-home setup.

Why Many Families Choose the Studio
- It’s effortless. Everything is already set up. No prep, no cleaning, no decisions needed from you.
- It’s designed for photography. Soft, glowy light, flattering tones, and a clutter-free environment ensure timeless images.
- It’s peaceful. The space is quiet, calm, and dedicated entirely to your session. No distractions—just time to relax and connect.
- It’s got plenty of space: In small homes, getting enough space to set up my light or get enough distance to photograph your family all together can be challenging. The studio has all the space we need.

The Bottom Line:
Whichever space you choose, my priority is always the same: to make sure you feel supported, relaxed, and cared for. I’ll gently guide you through everything—no pressure to “perform” or be perfectly put together.
If you’re still undecided, I recommend the studio. It’s created with new families in mind: light-filled, serene, and intentionally styled. All you have to do is show up, take a breath, and let me take care of the rest.
Either way, we’ll create images that feel real, meaningful, and true to your family.
Here are a couple images of the studio so you can get a feel for the space!

When you come to the studio for your newborn session, you’re stepping into a space that was designed to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible. The Northeast LA studio features a cozy client lounge with a couch, nursing chair, toddler toys (and yes, a TV with Bluey on standby), a stocked changing table, snacks, and WiFi. The studio itself includes a bed with soft white bedding, creating a clean, timeless setting for your photos while also giving you a place to relax during the session. I’ve thought through every detail so you can truly just show up and enjoy this moment with your baby.
