Fall Photo Sessions Los Angeles

Family photographers in Los Angeles all share one thing in common… our fall is the busiest season of all! But, as crazed as we are this time of year we know that our families are also feeling the crunch!

Here are 5 tips to help you make the most of your October or November portrait session!

Oops, it’s October (or worse, November!) and you’ve just realized you’d better book your fall portrait session. The holiday season is closing in on you and it’s likely that sessions are booking fast with your favorite photographer, so here are a few tips to take the stress out of your fall portrait session.

      #1 Book Early

Okay, a little late for this tip, but I’ll include it anyway. As I mentioned, fall is a busy time for family portraits in Los Angeles. If you can, think about contacting photographers in August or early September. That way you’ll get your pick of prime weekend dates and you can relax… like this guy.

      #2 Know what you’re after

Having a clear idea of what you’re looking for can help make the leg work of finding a photographer a little easier. For example, I offer full-service, custom family photography.

This means that you’ll have my personal attention throughout the process, from design to delivery.

For the few hours we spend together, many more are spent by me and my team – behind the scenes – perfecting your images, wall-art and albums. At the end of our time together you’ll have portraits that you can hold in your hands and hang on your walls, and enjoy for generations to come.

That said, you may be looking for a simple mini-session with a few quickly-edited digital images. Having an idea of what kind of service you expect from your photographer will definitely help streamline the process!

      #3 Don’t Overcomplicate It!

Fall is a busy time for everybody and the closer we get to the holidays, the crazier it gets! It can be tempting to want to pack all your holiday cheer into your fall portrait session, but I suggest you take a step back and think about what your yearly portrait is really about. If your little one doesn’t want to don her patent leather shoes and velvet headband, don’t make her! Let your session be a relaxed couple of hours with your family. I promise, you’ll love your portraits that much more.

      #4 Embrace off-peak

Your photographer of choice may have her October weekends booked well in advance, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of options! Most photography sessions are planned for late afternoon, during the golden hour. However, early morning is also a beautiful time to make portraits! Another option is to knock off work early and take a weekday afternoon opening. It’s always worth asking if your photographer has any “off-peak” session times available.

      #5 Send a New Year’s Card

If a holiday deadline has you stressed, give yourself the gift of letting go. It may be easier to get a session for late November, or early December, when holiday turnaround is no longer guaranteed. Once the hubbub of the holiday season has died down, you’ll be rewarded with some beautiful portraits of your family and the perfect way to start the New Year.
