Los Angeles Beach Portraits

With big changes coming (one child entering high school and another off to college), these Santa Monica parents wanted to capture their family as it is right now. We opted for beach portraits, since the whole family enjoys the ocean.

It was clear from the get-go that this family truly enjoys one another’s company. Not only were they all game to try whatever I threw at them, but they had one another (and me) in stitches. I loved watching how relaxed and affectionate they all were with one another.

I have to say, on a personal level this was an inspiring session for me. My kids are 5 and 8, so they share the same 3-year age gap as these siblings. I often wonder what my children’s sibling-hood will look like over time… I can only hope that they’ll have the kind of relationship that these two share.

Definitely no shortage of genuine smiles during this session…

For every teenager I photograph I probably photograph 10 more babies and toddlers. It’s a very different experience and one that I truly enjoy. It was an honor to make portraits of these two as they mark such big milestones in their lives.

As the daughter in this family told me about her brother “we basically have two modes: battle and love. Most of the time, it’s love”.
