Natural Newborn Photography in Los Angeles

I absolutely love in-home newborn sessions. Unless you’re a real jets-setter, your home is likely to be your whole world for a few weeks after your new baby is born. It’s that cozy place where you and your partner (and your other children, if you have them) get to know the new addition. And while your world shrinks down to the size of your home, at the same time this new little person fills you up entirely, pushing the outside world right out the window. This makes your home the perfect place for a newborn session. In fact, your home is the key to relaxed, natural newborn photography.

Last month I was lucky enough to spend some time with some friends of ours, in their Hancock Park home. Believe me when I say that this family is busy! Both parents have demanding jobs, plus they are keeping up with an energetic (and whip-smart) six-year-old. Knowing this, AND that they had just survived an epic home-renovation project, it was so nice to see them all slowed down to “newborn pace” and just enjoying being together at home. Baby was awake for the entire session and just as sweet as she looks in her portraits.

Something tells me that this one is going to be every bit as fun – and sassy – as her sister!

The newborn phase really does pass in a flash. Hopefully these images of quiet and cuddly moments will bring back the feeling of what it was like to hold their newborn when mom and dad are chasing a toddler around the house!

Big sister was never far from baby’s side. This little one is pretty luck to have such a fierce protector.

I consider myself lucky to do these kinds of sessions. Stepping into the inner sanctum of a newborn’s home is a real gift. Plus, who doesn’t love the chance to cuddle a newborn without having to stay up all night?

Want to see more? This was actually the first half of a hybrid session (we ventured to a local garden for the second half of the session and let big sister take center stage). I’ll be blogging those images in the near future!
