There’s no place like home…

In my opinion there is no better place for a newborn session than in the home. A portrait of your baby in a flowerpot can be beautiful, but, unless your babe spends a lot of time hanging out in flowerpots, that image isn’t going to be packed with many memories.

Here’s one of my recent newborn lifestyle sessions. This gorgeous little girl was two months at the time of the session (too old to sleep peacefully in a flowerpot anyway) and, with maternity leave coming to an end for one of them, this family wanted to capture those first weeks spent at home together. ¬†This session was designed around the family’s daily routine, so when they look back at these portraits in 30 years they’ll not only remember what their little girl looked like as a newborn, but what those blurry newborn days really felt like.

      All in the family

Another benefit of an in-home family session is that you can include ALL of the family. This guy was angling to steal the show all day.

Well, when you’re this beautiful you’d better start your day with your own reflection.

Finding love in all the right places.

An in-home session is a great way to get some variety in your portraits. There are plenty of opportunities to take some more formal shots (like the first image below), as well as to capture your everyday moments.

A big thanks to this beautiful family for opening their home to me and sharing this special time in their lives. I hope these photographs transport them back to the “baby days” for years to come.
