The Moment That Stays With You
Picture this: you’re cradling your baby in your arms, barely a week old, wrapped in that newborn sleepiness. You’re exhausted. Completely in love. A little overwhelmed. Now imagine yourself 15 years from now, looking back at this moment in a photo. What do you want to see?
I recently photographed a new family in my Los Angeles studio, a couple who had gone through a long road to parenthood. Their baby was finally here, safe in their arms, and the love in the room was thick enough to stop time. What struck me most was how present they were. They weren’t fussing with matching outfits or staged poses. They were simply enjoying their baby. That kind of emotional presence is exactly what fuels my approach to newborn photography.
Minimalist, timeless images might seem simple on the surface. But they carry the most emotional weight when you look at them years down the line. Here’s why.

Why So Many Parents Are Looking for Something More Honest
Most of the first-time moms I work with here in Los Angeles come to me with the same quiet concern: “I want beautiful photos… but I don’t want them to feel fake.”
They’ve seen the ultra-posed baby photos on Pinterest – the froggy poses, the tiny knit costumes, even the random antique props. But it doesn’t feel like them. And more importantly, it doesn’t feel like real life. That newborn ferocity, softness, fragility – it doesn’t need set design. It needs space to be.
My philosophy is simple: let the baby, and the connection you have with them, be the focus. We don’t need props to tell your story. We just need the real.

What Makes a Minimalist Newborn Session Truly Timeless
1. Less in the Frame, More in the Feeling
When I say I keep things minimal, I’m talking about what’s in each frame:
- No props
- No novelty outfits
- No visually busy backdrops
Why? Because those things pull focus away from what matters most – your baby, and your bond.
I’d much rather photograph your baby sleeping peacefully in your arms than posed in a vintage doll bed. One of those images is about style. The other is about love.

2. Photos That Don’t Age (In a Good Way)
Imagine pulling a photo down off your wall in 20 years. Do you want a trendy edit or a timeless one? Filters fade. Color palettes change. But a clean, minimalist image that could have been taken any time in the last few decades? That never goes out of style.
Timeless photos are a gift to your future self. And honestly, they’re a gift to your kids too. Because when they’re older, they won’t care what was on-trend in 2025. They’ll care about seeing that spark in your eyes when you first met them.

3. Creating Space for Real Emotion
During your session, my job is to make you comfortable, relaxed, and cared for. That’s when all the best stuff happens – the natural cuddles, the sleepy coos, the private little smiles between you and your baby. If you’re not worried about posing or props or looking perfect, you get to just be. And I’ll be there to capture the honest beauty of that.
And guess what? That honesty resonates more than any styling could. Because these photos aren’t just about this week or next. They’re about 10 years from now when you’re wondering where all the time went.
Why It Matters More Than You Might Think
Here’s the thing I always tell new parents: It’s not just about how you’ll feel when you open your gallery next week. It’s about how you’ll feel years down the road. When your baby is taller than you. When the newborn days feel fuzzy and far away.
These images will bring you back. Not just to what your baby looked like, but to how it felt to hold them close. That deep-sleep weight in your arms. That little crease in their forehead. The sense that everything in the world paused for a moment while you became a parent.
Trendy photos can be cute in the moment. But timeless ones? They become part of your family story.
