Spring in Los Angeles is one of my favorite times for outdoor family photos. The weather is warming up, flowers are blooming, and everything feels fresh and full of life. As a Los Angeles family photographer, I love capturing families during this time of year when the light is soft, the landscapes are vibrant, and the weather is dry and warm (but not scorching hot!).
If you’re thinking about scheduling a spring family session, here’s what you need to know to make the most of it:
Why Spring is the Perfect Time for Family Photos in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is pretty great for photos year-round, but spring? That’s where it really shines. The greenery is actually green, the flowers are blooming, and the weather is warm without the sweaty, end-of-summer heat. If you’re thinking about updating your family photos, this is hands down one of the best times to do it.
One of my favorite spots for spring sessions is Arlington Garden in Pasadena. It has the perfect mix of textures between the Mediterranean plants, winding paths, and those seasonal blooms that make for the dreamiest backdrops. It feels natural and effortless, which is exactly how I like to approach family sessions.
Spring also just feels easier. The weather is nice, the days are longer, and schedules aren’t as hectic as the fall holiday rush. If you’ve been putting off getting family photos, this is your sign to book a session and make it happen. Arlington Garden is at its best right now, and it’s the perfect place for laid-back, light-filled, and timeless family portraits.
What to Wear for Your Spring Family Photoshoot
One of the biggest questions I get as a Los Angeles outdoor family photographer is “What should we wear?” I know it’s hard to coordinate and honestly, as a parent, you’ve got enough on your plate so I’ve got you covered. Here are some ideas to help you choose outfits that not only will look great in photos, but will ensure everyone is comfortable:
- Sick to soft, neutral tones: Think light pastels, soft blues, warm beiges, and some creamy whites…these colors always photograph beautifully in natural light and compliment the spring landscape.
- Keep it comfortable: Trust me on this one; most times that uncomfortable outfit, though it may be gorgeous, just is not worth it. You’ll be walking, playing, and interacting with your family, so go with something that will allow you to move. Flowy dresses, relaxed button-down shirts, and comfortable footwear are great options.
- Coordinate, but don’t match: Choose a cohesive color palette with complementary shades as opposed to keeping everyone in the same color. A mix of soft neutrals with one or two subtle pops of color always works well.
- Avoid loud patterns or logos: Oftentimes patterns just do not photograph well. Try sticking to simple, textured fabrics to keep the focus on your family rather than on what you’re wearing.
My spring calendar fills up quickly, especially as families start thinking about Mother’s Day gifts and updating their yearly photos. If you’ve been considering scheduling a spring family photography session in Los Angeles, now is the time to book.I make sure your session is relaxed, natural, and fun. You don’t need to worry about posing or getting little ones to cooperate…I handle it all so you can focus on being in the moment with your family.
