i'd love to hear from you!
As a Los Angeles maternity photographer, I’m lucky to be able to work on the beach most of the year. This Los Angeles mama had her heart set on a maternity photo shoot on the beach. We did the session in March, which can be pretty chilly, but we were gifted a calm and sunny evening.
Golden hour maternity photo shoot on the beach
I photograph all my outdoor maternity sessions during the golden hour. The golden hour is that magical time before sunset when the light is soft and warm. Take a look at the gorgeous golden light we had to work with!
The best time for a maternity photo shoot
I photograph most of my moms to be when they are between 30 and 35 weeks pregnant. This is generally the window when you have a defined bump but aren’t feeling too swollen or draggy. I recommend that my clients get in touch to book their maternity sessions at the end of their first trimester. If you plan on a beach maternity session, you’ll want to book early. We’ll need to take into account the tides, as well as your schedule.
Leo Carrillo Maternity Photo Shoot
One of my favorite beach locations is Leo Carrillo State Park, just west of Los Angeles in Malibu. At low tide, this beach boasts beautiful rock formations. These rocks bring some visual interest and lend some shade, which means we can start the session a little earlier. With about 90 minutes to work with before the sun goes down, we can include a wardrobe change, incorporate your partner or kids, and never feel rushed.
As an added bonus, Leo Carrillo has a beautiful bluff walk above the beach. I took this last photograph just after the sun had dipped below the horizon and it’s one of my favorites from the session.
