i'd love to hear from you!
As a Los Angeles newborn photographer I am known for creating minimalist newborn portraits. No props, costumes, or unnatural posing. My clients come to me from all over Los Angeles, and beyond, because they are looking for simple, timeless newborn photos.
Minimalist newborn portraits can be hard to find
When my son was born in 2013, I searched high and low for a newborn photographer with a minimalist style. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anyone in my area who shared my vision for simple, timeless newborn portraits. I took my son’s portraits myself and, in the process, fell in love with newborn photography. At that point I was already working as a family photographer and decided to add newborn sessions to my offerings. I quickly discovered that there were LOTS of parents out there who also wanted simple, minimalist newborn photos.
Why I prefer simple newborn portraits
There are lots of reasons why I prefer simple newborn portraits. If you’d like to know more about that, you can check out this post about why I don’t use props in my newborn photography.
As a mother to a new baby I wanted to document all those little details so that later I could remember all the tiny details. His new, soft skin, fuzzy little shoulders, and tiny dimpled fingers. I had no interest in having him photographed in baskets, crates, or miniature beds that had no meaning to me or my family.
Minimalist newborn photos help you remember the feeling of bringing your baby home and those first weeks of getting to know one another without added distractions.
Plenty of variety
As you can see from this small sample, you can get plenty of variety without props and sets. My newborn sessions include family and sibling photographs, solo portraits of baby, and plenty of detail images. We’ll use different wraps and knits to add a bit of texture and interest and follow baby’s lead to explore which positions they are most comfortable in. My clients typically receive 60-80 images in their proofing gallery.
