i'd love to hear from you!
Candid Family Photography in Los Angeles
These lovely people are actually good friends of mine (lucky me!). With a new baby and a newly-minted big brother in the house, they were looking to refresh their family portraits. They are as relaxed and fun as a family of four can get and I knew that they wouldn’t be looking for portraits that were too traditional, formal or posed. During our design appointment we discussed a session that would capture the excitement (and the chaos) of a new baby, and give them some candid family photography worthy of a place on their walls.
When my assistant and I arrived at their home Mom, Dad and the baby were nowhere to be found. However, these two greeted us at the door and invited us to join in some squirrel-watching. I definitely couldn’t let this moment go! I made this image before we’d even set our bags down.
Baby brother still needed some attention from Mom and Dad, so we headed out to the yard. Property-tours led by 4 year-old cowboys are always enlightening. We found a great “wilderness” spot to capture this solo portrait.
By the time we got back from our tour of the yard, baby was ready for his close-up. We used a variety of spots inside the house to get some images of baby with Mom, Dad and brother.
This little guy was so sweet and stayed asleep for almost the entire session. We headed back out to the family’s gorgeous garden, where we were able to get some more traditional portraits of baby.
This is a beautiful baby and I have no doubt this image will be treasured, but so will the more candid images we captured… those that tell the real story of what it’s like bringing baby home the second time around.
